Mlondolozi Hempe transformed Imbiza yesiXhosa, the traditional South African “potjie” – into an interesting functional modern furniture piece
Mlondolozi Hempe is an Architectural Designer and graduate of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth. Together with Zuko Ngcizela & Olwethu Nyengane, fellow Architecture graduates from NMMU, they founded Broad Based Design – a multi-disciplinary design studio that covers Architecture, Interior design, Furniture design, Animation, Brand Identity & Graphic design.
Hempe recently transformed imbiza yesiXhosa – the traditional South African “potjie” into an interesting functional modern furniture piece. He collaborated with Laduma Ngxokolo of famed MaXhosa by Laduma and designed a unique ambient space as one of the starts of 12 Rooms Exhibition at Leon CCXIX in Cape Town to encourage good conversation with his creative contemporary African Designs.
The Inkudla sofa will be going on Auction this month Starting from 14 August 2014. This designer piece for furniture made from Bovine Butterscotch Leather 100%, Highland Pebble Tweed with a Mahogany finish. This auction will be a silent auction running at the Leon at 219 Furniture Showroom in WoodStock, Cape Town. Proceeds from the Auction will be going to SA’s Children Home www.sakinderhuis.org .
